Now accepting Orders for Lanark County Routes

“Lanark County Routes”.

This is the newest book undertaken by Lanark County Genealogical Society.

Volume I Pakenham, Ramsay, Beckwith and Montague

Volume II Bathurst, Dalhousie Darling, Drummond, Lanark, Lavant, North Burges, North Elmsley, North Sherbrooke, South Sherbrooke.

Covers for the 2 volume set

Each volume has sets of maps applicable to the townships in that book. The maps are ones that have landowner names applied as well as one modern map with all the Lots and Concessions marked. These are designed to aid in finding where your ancestors lived.

The second component of each book is farm histories of various farms in each township as submitted by both members and by non-members of Lanark County Genealogical Society. Some farms are still active. Some are not. Some still have descendants of the early settlers on them. Others do not. While most of our ancestors did general farming, many farmers now specialize in dairy cattle, beef cattle, field crops, sheep, horses, etc. Along with these, we feature a lama and alpaca farm, a farm where sheep are milked. Some farms have become subdivisions. Many have more than one family living on the original lot.

Where possible we have identified the rural address of many of the farms to help people in situating where a particular Lot and Concession actually is. Many of the articles tell a brief history of the families who lived there in the early days. It has been particularly heartening to encounter several young couples taking on the challenge of farming at this time. We wish them nothing but success because our future depends on it.

The work of the Society to create this publication was extensive. As noted above, this book has involved many authors and thousands of hours of research with references being carefully noted. Printing and binding costs have also increased significantly, resulting in a final price tag for the book that reflects all of these factors.

  1. Hello and good afternoon! I am having great difficulty finding birth and or baptismal records for my grandparents born in Dalhousie Lanark Ontario in 1830 and 1831. They are James Duncan Park and Marion Allen Park. Is there someone local I could speak to with locally who might have some advice? Churches are my best bet but so far I have had no luck. I appreciate any suggestions. Thank you Dena

    1. Hello Dena, iunderstand you recently took out a yearly membership with LCGS and that our Corporate Secetary and Ressearch Volunteer shared the following with you. Are you aware of the book “A Swarm of Bees,Lanark Society Settlers 1800-1900, A Journey from Scotland to Upper Canada and Utah” by Ron W. Shaw. This is a very comprehensive history of this group of people who followed the Mormans from Lanark County to Utah. It begins in Scotland with their life there and then their trip to Upper Canada and finally the trek to Utah.It is over 400 pages and is available from Global Genealogy. If you do not have it, I would suggest not going for the e version but get the hard covered book. You will not be disappointed. There are Park family members galore including your ancestors.
