Lanark County is situated immediately west of Carleton County, in the Province of Ontario, Canada. It is bordered by Renfrew County on the north, Frontenac County on the west and Leeds and Grenville Counties on the south. The county seat of Lanark County is the Town of Perth.

Lanark County, Ontario, was formed from the southern part of the old Bathurst District. For information on many of the towns and all townships of this area, see the section of the Smith’s 1846 Canadian Gazetteer under the Lanark County History section. Many of the settlers who came to Lanark County in the early 1800’s came from Lanarkshire, Scotland.

In 1998, due to Ontario Goverment enforced amalgamations, many of the old townships within Lanark County disappeared. The Lanark County Economic Development website gives you an idea of what Lanark County is like today.
