A PERTH OLD BOY
GRATIFIED AT REUNION.
John J. McLaurin’s Life in the
Earlier Days of
Old Perth.
A GOOD SUGGESTION.
Mr. John J. McLaurin, of Franklin, Pa., in renewing for the Courier writes : —
“It gratified me extremely to note the movement towards having a reunion of former residents of Perth. It was my privilege to clerk in James Allan‘s store for a time, to teach school in North Elmsley, and to be connected with the Courier a year or more during Mr. George L. Walker‘s proprietorship of the paper. My grandfather, Rev. Dr. Buchanan, was the pioneer minister of Beckwith, and often preached in Perth for Rev. Wm. Bell. Leaving Perth for this ministry in March of 1868, two short visits since that date showed many changes in and around the old town.
“It strikes me,” continues Mr. McLaurin, “that the programme should include a public meeting for addresses and papers on early days, because some of those who attend could certainly furnish entertaining reminiscences, and a religious service on Sunday by old-time pastors, such as Rev. James B. Duncan, now of Toronto, and Rev. George McRitchie. The reunion ought to be a memorable event in the history of Perth.”
